ABOUT

I wasn't always an outdoorsy person. If someone were to tell me at the age of 18 that I'd be taking photos of landscapes, climbing mountains, watching moon-rises over the arctic circle or watching sunsets from the desert, I'd have laughed at them. But here we are.

That's not to say the building blocks weren't there. I grew up in a Seaside town in South East England. My earliest childhood memories included my dad taking me to scout campouts with him and sitting around a fire, or going on long surfing holidays in Cornwall and long road trips down to the South of France in our family campervan. I spent my childhood dreaming up games on the beaches of Cornwall with my cousins, building fires, watching burning sunsets on the beach, going for long hikes with nothing but a fleece to keep me warm and a sense of adventure. Travel and adventure were in my DNA, it just took me a while to find my way back as an adult.

As a kid, I took an old digital camera I got for Christmas one year with me on family trips and happily snapped low quality images of sunsets, family and things I saw and liked. I didn't get my first real camera until 2013. A Canon 700D with a 18-55mm lens. I had no idea how to use it but I was immediately hooked. I took it to every family event, holiday and walk I went on. I didn't realise it then, but that was the beginning of a life long love affair.

In 2016, I had had enough of the life I was living. Job in London, 2 hour commute, gym membership and bars on the weekend. My life fell apart that year and by the end of it, I decided something drastically needed to change I booked a 1 way flight to Australia and had a working holiday visa accepted shortly after. I spent the next 3 years in Melbourne where I met my now husband. We bonded over having the same camera. I was in awe of him, everything I learned from that moment onwards has been taught to me by my husband. Whilst studying a screen and media diploma,  spent 3 years with my now husband camping in the back of his Holden Commodore, driving to the coast to shoot night time photography, taking multi day road trips to the central Australian desert and went on simultaneously my first camping trip as an adult and mountain hike at the Grampians. Our weekends were a blur of tropical forests, mountains, beaches sea and snow. It felt like a dream. Better than a dream because it was real. I learned that there were few things on this planet better than a wild sunset or night under the stars. Then reality came knocking on the door. After my student visa ( the second visa I applied for after my working holiday was up) expired, I attempted to extend with a denial. It was time to return to the UK. Luckily, my husband has Welsh heritage and applied for his UK passport with success. 30 days later we landed in  London Heathrow airport.

I don't need to remind anyone how 2019 onwards played out, but it played a significant role in my photography career. The sense of feeling trapped lead to an overwhelming longing. A longing for sunsets. A longing mountains and most of all, a deep longing to feel ever present in a moment. That feeling of time stopping in nature, when you're standing there watching a scene, as if nothing else matters.

As soon as the boarders opened and public places became accessible, I spent every spare minute I had either planning a hike, a road trip or a holiday. In the past few years I've had countless camping trips across the UK visiting the Lake District, Peak District, Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia and other AONB across the UK as well as exploring the Dolomites, Iceland, California, Utah, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Amsterdam and most recently Nepal where I hiked the Everest Basecamp Trek. All the while honing my art and falling in love with the process of journaling and photo journaling.

Today I live in North Wales as a Landscape and product photographer. I document my personal experiences in the outdoors and tell stories of my adventures abroad. I give tips on gear, hiking and provide visual guides on trails that I have loved and work with companies to help bring visions to life. All whilst forever trying to capture that feeling, that longing for aloneness and prencence in the great outdoors. Perhaps we'll cross paths sometime.
